Privacy Policy
How Cutkind: Hairstyle Try On handles your selfies, previews, purchases and optional analytics.
Your photo and the cut you choose
To make a preview, Cutkind sends a copy of the photo you take or choose, resized to at most 1,024 pixels on its long side and with location and other metadata removed, together with the cut and the hair texture you confirm (straight or wavy, with your hair colour kept), through aqualley’s AI gateway, which runs on Amazon Web Services in the United States, to the third-party AI providers we work with, which run the image models. The photo is used only to make the preview you asked for. Cutkind does not use face recognition and does not create face geometry or other biometric templates: your photo is only edited and returned to you. Cutkind asks for your agreement, and for you to confirm that you are 18 or older, before your first photo is sent; without it nothing is uploaded, and you can withdraw it at any time in Settings › Photo processing. The providers handle the photo and the generated preview to make your preview, under their own terms and privacy policies.
Your previews
aqualley’s gateway keeps a private copy of each finished preview, linked to your anonymous app user ID, so that only your copy of Cutkind can download it. The app saves your photo and your previews on your phone, in Cutkind’s library and shortlist, until you delete them. Cutkind shows the system photo picker and reads only the photo you pick; it asks for camera access when you take a selfie, and on iPhone for permission to add images to Photos when you save a barber reference. When you save or share a barber reference, the destination you choose, such as Photos or another app, handles it under its own privacy practices. If you use iCloud, Google backup or another backup service, Cutkind’s library may be included according to that service’s settings.
How long we keep your photo and previews
[TODO: retention periods pending verification.] How long aqualley’s gateway and the third-party AI providers keep your photo and your previews is being verified and will be stated here before Cutkind is released. Until then, you can delete them at any time as described below.
Deleting your photos and previews
Settings › Delete my photos and results, or Delete on a single result, removes the photos and previews from your phone at once and asks aqualley’s gateway to delete its copies, including a preview that is still being made. The app shows whether the server copy has been deleted, is still being deleted or could not be deleted yet, and keeps retrying until it has an answer.
Your credits and free preview
To keep pack credits, free redos, returns for failed previews and the one free preview per device fair, aqualley’s gateway records each preview you start: a job identifier, the cut and texture, whether it succeeded and which credits it used. These records are linked to your anonymous app user ID and to the identifiers of your App Store or Google Play purchases, which the gateway reads from RevenueCat, so that a purchase cannot be spent twice. The app proves to our server that it is the genuine Cutkind app with Apple’s App Attest on iPhone and Google’s Play Integrity on Android. To remember whether this device has used its free preview, the app uses Apple’s DeviceCheck on iPhone, and the gateway keeps only a one-way hash of the DeviceCheck token; on Android, the gateway keeps a one-way hash of the Android ID that Android gives Cutkind on this phone, never the ID itself. None of this is used for advertising.
Reporting a preview
If a preview looks wrong or offensive, you can report it in Cutkind. The report sends your reason, a note of up to 500 characters if you write one and the preview’s job identifiers and cut, with your anonymous app user ID, to aqualley’s gateway. We use reports to review what the app makes and improve it, and keep reports for up to 400 days.
Purchases
Apple or Google processes payments for Cutkind’s credit packs. Cutkind uses RevenueCat to verify purchases. RevenueCat may process an anonymous app user identifier, purchase status, and device and diagnostic information needed to provide that service. Cutkind Settings shows this identifier as your User ID so you can choose to share it with support. Offer codes are entered in Apple’s redemption sheet or on Google Play’s redeem page; Cutkind does not read or send the code. aqualley does not receive your payment-card details.
Optional usage analytics
When usage analytics is on in Cutkind Settings, the app sends limited events to PostHog Cloud in the United States. Events include a random Cutkind-specific identifier, a session identifier, the app version and build, whether the device is one of our own test devices, and actions such as opening the app for the first time, finishing onboarding, browsing and choosing cuts, choosing a photo and your texture, your choice on the photo agreement, starting, finishing, comparing, shortlisting, saving, sharing, deleting or reporting a preview and whether it failed, viewing credits or the pack, and the outcome of a purchase, restore or redeem attempt. They never contain your photos, previews, payment details or contact details. PostHog derives your approximate country from the IP address of each request and stores that IP address alongside the event; Cutkind does not read device location, and we use country only for aggregate reporting. Advertising tracking and session replay are disabled.
Usage analytics is on by default and you can turn it off in Settings at any time. This stops further collection, discards unsent events and resets the local analytics identifier; it does not remove events PostHog has already received. See PostHog’s privacy policy for that service.
How you found Cutkind
To learn which of our videos, links and ads bring people to Cutkind, the app records once how it was installed: whether it came from an Apple Search Ads campaign (Apple tells the app through its AdServices service, without tracking you across apps), or, on Android, the campaign name in one of our links, and, if you choose to answer, where you heard about Cutkind. These values are added to the usage analytics events and stored with your anonymous app user ID at RevenueCat, so we can see downloads and revenue by source in aggregate. They are not sent when usage analytics is off. Our links at go.aqualley.net count taps per campaign, device type and country, and store no IP address or identifier.
Support emails
“Report a bug” opens an email to info@aqualley.net filled in with your User ID, app version and build, device model, iOS or Android version, locale and store country. Nothing is sent unless you send it.
Adults only
Cutkind is for adults 18 and over and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as Cutkind changes. The current version will be posted on this page. For privacy questions or requests, contact info@aqualley.net. To have the records linked to your User ID deleted, email us the User ID shown in Cutkind Settings; we delete aqualley’s gateway records for it within 30 days, except the records that stop a purchase or a free preview from being used twice. Purchase records kept by Apple, Google and RevenueCat follow their own policies.
